last update: 26 june 2011

A material can be applied to an Object by performing a Drag and Drop action from the HTML catalog of materials into the View.

A Drag and Drop Material action generally takes place in two steps. Click first on HTML elements and then, holding the left mouse button, perfom the Drag and Drop action by moving the mouse on the View.

In this example, the entire catalog of materials is being loaded. When the mouse button is released, a progress bar will appear in the View which will display the time needed to download the entire catalog materials from the internet. It will be necessary to wait a few seconds to continue and view the result (download speeds vary depending on internet connection and the size of the material file). Using this method, when a Drag and Drop operation is performed in the future, the result will be immediate and it will not be necessary to wait for the single materials to be downloaded.

When dropping a material that already exists in the scene, it will not need to be downloaded again and can be instantly dropped, therefore avoiding any waste of system memory.

Using the Drag and Drop Material Command

1) Left click on the icon of a Material displayed in the "catalog", for exemple, a textile;
2) While holding the left mouse button, drag the mouse cursor to the point in the View where you want to drop the material, such as the cushion of the sofa;
3) Release the mouse button to complete the drop Material action.

When initiating a Drag and Drop action, the mouse cursor will change to a hand and this will inform the user whether or not it is possible to drop the material in the chosen position. Positioning restrictions can be a consequence of the behaviour associated to the material.

Indicates that it is not possible to drop the material in this position.
Indicates that the material can be dropped in this position
